Juliette Aroca CSR Project Manager at the JMI Group – SPAR25

On the occasion of Responsible Fishing and Aquaculture Week, we interview Juliette Aroca, CSR Project Manager at the JMI Group, which owns Crusta C.
Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Juliette Aroca, and I am the CSR Project Manager at the JMI Group. My role consists of developing, implementing, and monitoring the Group's CSR strategy.
I work closely with the various teams to integrate these issues into daily processes and practices, while ensuring that the company respects its commitments to its stakeholders. My role is also to raise awareness and mobilize all employees around CSR issues so that they become drivers of action at all levels.
What do you think of Responsible Fishing and Aquaculture Week?
Responsible Fishing and Aquaculture Week, held every year, is a key event for raising awareness of the need to preserve our marine resources. It plays a fundamental role in engaging all stakeholders—producers, distributors, consumers—to adopt more sustainable practices.
This event highlights the importance of collective responsibility, reminding us that every action, no matter how small, has an impact on the preservation of marine ecosystems. It encourages us to rethink our consumption habits and make more environmentally friendly choices.
What are the challenges of sustainable fishing for Crusta C and as a consumer?
The challenges of sustainable fishing are numerous and essential. They include preserving marine biodiversity, maintaining the ecological balance of marine habitats, and ensuring the sustainability of fishery resources. In the shorter term, it also supports coastal communities and ensures global food security.
For Crusta C, these issues are at the heart of our mission. We are fully committed to actions aimed at minimizing the environmental impact of our activities, while supporting responsible fishing practices.
As consumers, it is essential to understand that every choice counts: choosing certified sustainable products from responsible fisheries means supporting a circular economy that benefits both the planet and future generations.
What actions does Crusta C implement on a daily basis?
Crusta C, part of the JMI Group, implements numerous actions in favor of sustainable and responsible fishing. For example, in Madagascar, we support local fishermen by training them in best practices for sustainable fishing. This includes responsible resource management, compliance with minimum catch sizes, and the use of appropriate equipment to limit bycatch.
We have also set up mangrove reforestation projects in three regions of Madagascar, with more than 67 hectares replanted to date. This initiative aims to restore natural habitats and protect coastlines from erosion. At the same time, we support coral reef replanting initiatives around Île aux Prunes to promote local marine biodiversity.
In addition, we contribute to beach clean-ups, an important action to combat plastic pollution that threatens marine ecosystems. These initiatives are part of our long-term commitment to preserving the oceans and the communities that depend on them.
Would you like to add any further information?
I would like to add that, at the JMI Group, we are continuously building and improving our CSR approach in order to broaden our positive impact. Furthermore, our commitment is not limited to aquaculture and responsible fishing; it also extends to reducing our environmental footprint and optimizing our processes in order to make our entire value chain more environmentally friendly.
