1M1E – July 2022: Marion Rifflart, Head of Quality Management Systems

Let’s meet Marion Rifflart. She’s been the Head of Quality Management Systems for Crusta C since 2014 and is based at the company’s headquarters. She began work with us as part of a sandwich course, focussing on IFS certification in the corporate division. She progressed to supporting 4 sites through the certification process and also client relationship management, with a particular focus on quality. Her career at Crusta C has really gone from strength to strength!

How would you describe your typical working day?

No two working days are alike and the issues I deal with vary a lot. I organize and take part in a lot of in-house meetings to move various projects forward, tackle challenges that have arisen, monitor KPIs, check to ensure that our labelling is fully compliant and more. This is done in tandem with corporate and the quality management departments of the various sites.

What projects are you currently working on?

I’ve several projects on the go. For instance, I’m working on setting up an electronic document management system with a partner who is custom-designing a solution for us. This is all part of a wider drive towards a paperless approach which will facilitate managing and accessing documentation by team members.

In a few words, describe your role to us.

Guaranteeing, creating and monitoring!

  • Guaranteeing a coherent quality management approach through documentation, regular monitoring of KPIs, audits and selecting corrective actions.
  • Creating a culture of improving practices with a view to achieving optimal efficiency and to keep pace with the constant change we see in the company itself, certification and rules and regulations.
  • Monitoring stakeholder satisfaction, both in-house and external to the company with regard to specifications, procedures and how feedback has been dealt with.

What are the key challenges or goals you have at work?

My main challenges are to safeguard the various certifications achieved by our sites by delivering an effective quality management system whilst at the same time catering to our clients’ needs. Each department makes their own specific contribution to the company’s success. The only way this can happen is to get all staff members at all levels of seniority onboard with this vision.

What do you like best about your work?

I like how my job is transversal – I partner with all of the firm’s departments with a view to understanding and familiarizing myself with each person’s role. It’s a very enriching part of my job and it’s an absolutely critical component in enabling me to perform my tasks successfully!

Which professional achievement are you most proud of?

Implementing IFS Food certification in the corporate unit during my sandwich course. I was fortunate to be given free rein along with the various heads of departments to build a quality management system which was compliant with the relevant standards. I matured a lot in terms of interpersonal relationships and approaches to work. To boot, the first site achieved its certification!

What advice would you give to new team members?

‘Choose a job you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life!’ – Confucius

I think this quote says it all. Even if we don’t make a career out of our passion, it’s important to do things that invest meaning in our daily lives. It seems to me that this is crucial for both our personal well-being and the company’s performance.

So, the question for the month of July is: what is your favourite recipe for enjoying with your family by the seaside?

I’d choose a nice seafood sharing platter with crustaceans, whelks, oysters (anyone who likes them can have mine) and glasses filled up with a cold drink.

To top it all off, you have the sound of the waves in the background and the briny smell of the ocean.

Thank you to Marion Rifflart for taking part in our July interview!
